Verizon tower deals top Tuesday's council agenda

City and school tax levies locked for FY27
Jackson's fiscal 2027 millage is now on the books. On Sept. 3 the council adopted two resolutions establishing ad valorem levies on real and personal property, one for the Jackson Municipal Separate School District and one for city and library purposes, both for fiscal 2026-2027 (tax year 2027). Chief Financial Officer Jillian Caldwell and Horhn sponsored both. The council then adopted the FY27 municipal budget on Sept. 11 by a 5-1 vote, per WJTV, after rejecting a $1.5 million transfer from police to fire and a $600,000 shift from Grand Gulf and JPD capital outlay to fire personnel. Property owners will see the combined rate on next year's bills.
Zoning Council meets today at 2:30
